Barboursville School Ministry
River Park Hospital’s Barboursville School is a psychiatric residential treatment program for adolescents with serious emotional disturbance. The primary goal is to provide individualized treatment, education, and care in a highly structured environment so the residents may return to their home communities as soon as possible.
Youth are admitted to the program through a Chapter 27 (Mental Hygiene) Final Commitment. These youth will have a DSM-IV diagnosis and will have been determined to be a danger to self or others, thereby requiring treatment in a more secure setting.
Typical behaviors exhibited by youth admitted to the program include suicidal or homicidal ideation, physical aggression, psychotic or other bizarre thinking or behavior or mood disturbances.
E.M.B.C. Church Ministry
This is E.M.B.C.’s tenth year of ministry in the Barboursville School. We go once a month (every third Sunday) and lead a church service for the students and staff of the school. Over the years many children have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior through the church ministry at the Barboursville School.
Throughout the year we also show the love of Christ to a sometimes forgotten group of children at the school by providing gifts and a party at Christmas, a special service for several annual holidays, and providing a copy of the Word of God for each student that takes up residence at the school.
